2 & 4 Wheels very proudly participated in the BeSafe event in Ballymena from 28th Jan to 1st Feb. The event adopted a multi-agency approach to safety and was funded by the Community Safety Partnership. 2 & 4 Wheel's attended under the 'Realbiker' project which seeks to address the ever-increasing problem of unregulated motor sport. In this case, it involved talking to children about the dangers of using quad bikes, scrambler bikers and mini-motos on public roads, parks, housing estates etc. The children participated in lively discussions about where not to ride, and the reasons why plus where they can ride safely and legally. Approximately 900 P7 children from 30 local schools took part in the event.
The aim of the BeSafe event is to promote safety and develop community awareness, preparing pupils for the transition to secondary education.
BeSafe also allows pupils to:
- Become more aware of personal and home safety.
- Learn how to react to dangerous situations.
- Make a contribution to crime prevention.
- Avoiding becoming the victim of crime.
- Understanding the role of the emergency services.
- Foster good citizenship and relations with various authorities.
